How to build reusable social post templates
Most teams rebuild the same announcement graphic every week — same layout, new words. A template turns that into a two-minute job, and keeps the hundredth post looking like the first.
Why templates beat editing an old export
Editing last week's PNG means every change is destructive: text sits on pixels, so you cannot restyle it, and you cannot swap a photo without leaving a mark. A template keeps layers separate, so the structure survives the hundredth reuse.
Steps
- Pick the canvas formatChoose the shape you post in most often. Coordinates are scaled proportionally when you change the format, but a different aspect ratio genuinely changes the layout — check the text before you commit.
- Build the layout onceAdd text, rectangles, ellipses and images. You can drag elements, set exact position and size, change colour, font size, weight and alignment, reorder layers, duplicate and delete. Undo and redo cover the whole session.
- Define the fields that changeReplace the headline, the date or the call to action with variables such as
{{headline}}or{{date}}. Anything written in curly braces becomes a fill-in field, and the canvas previews the real value as you type. - Save, then reuseSaved templates live in My templates. Open one, change only the fields, and export. The JSON backup option lets you keep a portable copy of any template outside the app.
Keeping every post consistent
Set your brand name and two colours once in the brand kit, then apply those colours explicitly to elements. Colours are never forced onto existing designs — nothing shifts under you when the palette changes.
What this workflow does not do
- One page per template. Multi-page carousels and page-level variables are not supported yet.
- Text layers use a fixed font stack — there is no font library, and no rotation or corner-radius controls.
- Exports are PNG and SVG only; there is no direct publishing to social platforms.
- Designs are saved in your browser, or in your account after you sign in. There is no team sharing or review workflow.
